Route overview

Almost every German route on this site is limited by one thing: how quickly a candidate reaches the certificate level the route requires. Placement letters and training contracts are often available months before the language is.

So we run the academy backwards from the deadline. We fix the intake you are targeting, work out which level you need and by when, and set the cohort pace to meet that date with exam practice at the end rather than hope.

Classes are live and small. Recordings exist for revision, but attendance is expected, because speaking is the module candidates fail and it is the one you cannot practise alone.

Who this route is for

  • Au Pair candidates who need a recognised A1 certificate
  • FSJ and Ausbildung candidates working towards B1 or B2
  • Nurses preparing for recognition and clinical German at B2
  • University applicants to German-taught programmes
  • Candidates who reached A2 elsewhere and stalled before B1
  • Anyone who has failed a speaking module and needs it rebuilt

Eligibility requirements

  • No prior German required for the A1 cohort
  • A placement test for anyone joining at A2 or above
  • A stable internet connection, a headset and a camera
  • Roughly two hours of daily study outside class
  • Willingness to speak in every session from week one

Eligibility criteria change. Final eligibility always depends on the official rules in force on your filing date and on an individual review of your case by the deciding authority.

  • Preferred exam provider, where the receiving institution specifies one

Levels and what each one unlocks

A1 — foundations

5–6 weeks

Introduce yourself, handle daily situations and hold short exchanges without translating from English first. The level most Au Pair files require.

A2 — everyday fluency

5–6 weeks

Past tense, modal verbs and the connectors that make sentences sound German. Conversation stops being scripted.

B1 — the visa gate

5–6 weeks

Subordinate clauses, opinion texts and topic vocabulary for work, health and housing. The level FSJ and most Ausbildung contracts expect.

B2 — clinical and customer-facing

8–10 weeks

The level care employers, hospitals and many nursing recognition paths ask for. Technical vocabulary and sustained professional conversation.

Processing timeline

    Placement and goal setting

    A short assessment plus a conversation about your route, target level and filing date.

  2. 2

    Level cohort

    Five to ten weeks per level in a live small group, with weekly written correction.

  3. 3

    Speaking intensives

    Weekly paired speaking sessions throughout, because this is where exams are lost.

  4. 4

    Exam mechanics

    Two weeks of full timed mocks across all four modules under exam conditions.

  5. 5

    Certification

    Exam booking guidance with a provider your receiving institution or mission recognises.

Common mistakes and refusal reasons

  • Starting German after the placement is arranged instead of before
  • Booking an exam with a provider the mission does not recognise
  • Self-marking written work rather than having it corrected
  • Practising listening at reduced speed and then meeting exam speed cold
  • Rehearsing interview answers in English and translating live
  • Treating German as a background task while working full time
